FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wear-resistant layer, which is preferably used on piston rings for internal combustion engines. Wear-resistant layer for piston rings comprises, wt%: 15-25 by weight Fe, 10-25 by weight WC, 30-40 by weight Cr, 10-25 by weight (Ni), 10-25 by weight (Mo), 1-10 by weight (C), 0.1-2 by weight silicon (Si), wherein Cr is present in elemental form and as a carbide in the form of Cr2C3, wherein in a total proportion of 15 to 50 % by wt. carbides, the following carbide concentrations are contained, wt%: 10-25 by weight WC and 5-30 by weight Cr2C3. Method for applying a wear-resistant layer comprises providing the ingredients in powder form and high-speed flame spraying (HVOF process) the ingredients onto a piston ring.
EFFECT: higher quality of wear-resistant layer due to increased wear-resistance, burn resistance and corrosion resistance.
