FIELD: high-voltage engineering; power transmission lines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed power transmission line has at least one conductor, one supporting structure, and lightning protection device insulated from supporting structure by means of insulating member and connected to ground electrode driven in soil. Ground electrode has no metal contact with supporting structure. Closest distance D between edge of supporting structure and that of ground electrode driven into soil is found from expression 0.2 cm < D < 50 m. Lightning protection device can be made in the form of lightning arrester or nonlinear surge limiter, or in the form of ground wire.
EFFECT: improved design of power transmission line lightning protection gear.
