FIELD: gas-discharge engineering; low-pressure gas-discharge switches such as thyratrons, pseudo-spark gaps, current switches for electronic engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed gas-discharge switching device has anode, cathode, auxiliary electrodes, and control grid, all disposed in gas-filled enclosure. Control grid has one and more tilted slits whose width is chosen from formula d≤hcosβ, where d is slit width; h is grid thickness; β is angle of slit wall inclination to grid surface. Angles of slit wall inclination may be different so that slit width on anode end is greater than that on cathode end; slit wall surfaces are coated with emission preventing material or with material whose secondary electron emission is higher.
EFFECT: reduced switching time for on- and off-operations, simplified design of device.
