FIELD: production of chlorine by electrolysis of solutions of alkaline metal halides.
SUBSTANCE: in cathode pin structure for chlorine-alkaline diaphragm type electrolyzer inside each pin sheet provided with dents is inserted. Woven wire net or perforated sheet forming each pin are secured by means of electrically conducting joint, preferably by welding, to top of each dent in order to provide optimal uniformity of electric current distribution. Said dents have shape preferably equivalent to spherical caps arranged in staggered fashion. Internal volume of each pin is divided by sheet provided with dents by two portions in which free uprising motion of hydrogen bubbles and also free lengthwise of separated hydrogen towards perimeter chamber of electrolyzer are realized. Inside internal volume of each pin only partially filled with said dents natural circulation of solution is also provided. Said solution contains produced caustic soda and impoverished sodium chloride and its circulation is performed by means of hydrogen bubbles.
EFFECT: improved design of cathode pin featured with rigidity and uniform electric current distribution.
