FIELD: flaw detection.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises detecting surface defects with a device for forming image having sight view used for forming image of the first preliminary determined width over the circumference of the surface of the rod. The device comprises at least three digital video cameras that are arranged so that their common sight of view corresponds to the mentioned image band. The device is additionally provided with the unit for generating light line for projecting the band of the light line and having the second preliminary determined width and the computing unit provided with the device for forming image that receives the data of image for a number of image bands captured by the device for forming image.
