FIELD: physics, instrumentation technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to instrumentation technology, mainly for details like plugs and bodies. Rack with two main detection heads and three additional heads is mounted onto a reference plane. Probes of the main heads have the same overhang against the said rack's axis; probes of the additional heads have the same overhang against the reference plane. Locator prism is installed on the reference plane in a way that bisecting plane of the prism is perpendicular to the probes' axes of the main detection heads. Then aligning bar is inserted in a hole of an object to be measured, and the object with the bar is installed on the locator prism. Then a plate is inserted into a groove in the object. The object is rotated on the locator prism until readings of two additional crosswise detecting heads become equal. Deviations of main head readings are used to determine centre distance error, difference of the mentioned readings indicates horizontal nonparallelity; vertical nonparallelity is indicated by difference in readings of two additional detection heads located along the plate.

EFFECT: improved accuracy when measuring misalignment between of groove and axis.
