FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: molten metal is fed to the crystalliser through an immersed pouring pot, the side output holes of which face the smaller side surfaces of the crystalliser. The configuration of molten metal flows in the crystalliser may be naturally set to the single loop mode or the double loop mode or the non-steady mode. At the level of the output holes of the pot, magnetic fields are generated, sliding in the direction of each smaller side wall of the pot. The sliding magnetic fields are actuated during the whole casting process so as to set or stabilise a constant configuration of the flow in the double loop mode. Alternatively, magnetic field may be actuated only if the flow configuration does not set naturally to the double loop mode.
EFFECT: sliding magnetic fields stabilize a constant configuration of the flow in the double loop mode; leads to continuous casting of metals.
