SUBSTANCE: said utility invention relates to an electrode for electric discharge surface treatment, used in a device and a method of electric discharge surface treatment. The electrode is designed as a green compact made by pressing metallic or ceramic powder. The electrode is used for obtaining an electric discharge between the electrode and the workpiece in the working fluid or a gas environment. A coating is formed on the workpiece, consisting of the electrode material or a substance resulting from the influence of electric discharge energy on the electrode material. The powder has an average particle diameter of 5 to 10 microns, the volumetric content of the component not forming carbide or forming carbide marginally and used for forming the coating is 40% or more. The electrode hardness determined by notching the coating layer with a tip is within B to 8B. The said electrode is used in the device for and the method of electric discharge surface treatment.
EFFECT: electrode with enhanced capacity of forming film on workpiece using electric discharge surface treatment method.
