FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: said utility invention relates to the nuclear power field, in particular, to mini fuel elements of a nuclear reactor. The mini fuel element of a nuclear reactor contains a mini fuel sphere and a protection coating including a zirconium carbide layer applied directly on the mini fuel sphere, with a selected substoichiometric composition in the range of ZrC0.75-ZrC0, with a low-density pyrocarbon layer, a high-density isotropic pyrocarbon layer, a silicon carbide layer, and an external layer of high-density isotropic pyrocarbon applied in sequence.
EFFECT: invention enhances reactor performance and decreases partial pressure of carbon oxide in mini fuel element.
