FIELD: measuring instruments.
SUBSTANCE: calibratable ultrasonic flow meter comprises a measuring pipe, at least two ultrasonic sensors and a processing unit. Predetermined process geometrical data are used to obtain information about the theoretical fluid flow through the measuring pipe. Actual geometrical measurement data of the flow meter are determined by means of three-dimensional scanning of the flow meter with electromagnetic waves or a mechanical scanning head using a tuning sensor provided with an element that is designed so as to simulate an ultrasonic transducer. Information about the actual fluid flow through the flow meter is obtained on the basis of the actual geometrical measurement data. A correction or calibration factor for the flow meter is determined using the information about the theoretical and actual flows. The tuning sensor includes a cone designed so as the centre of a ball having a certain diameter places itself upon touching the cone in the centre of a sound outlet surface or a sound inlet surface of the respective ultrasonic sensor.
EFFECT: invention enables a fast and easy on-site dry calibration of the flow meter.
