FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method provides for shutdown of furnace feeding at water ingressing into vacuum chamber, then volume of supplied cooling water is decreased, vacuum pumps are turned off, and pressure tight back valves are triggered. At the same time as furnace is shut down liquefied carbon dioxide is fed additionally into vacuum chamber; said gas generates excessive atmospheric pressure for period equal to ingot cooling time. Invention facilitates neutralizing explosion hazardous mixture which is generated as result of contact of water out of cooling system of casting mold with cast reactive metal.
EFFECT: upgraded explosion safety.
