FIELD: special electrometallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of special electrometallurgy, namely to the smelting of ingots of highly reactive metals and their alloys by vacuum arc remelting, mainly from tantalum and niobium alloys. The electric arc is influenced in the process of remelting the consumable electrode and removing the shrinkage cavity with magnetic fields of various orientations, while periodically acting with an axial magnetic field with a strength of ±1,5 ÷20.3 x 103 A/m, a period of exposure of 3 minutes and a pause of 5 seconds , and at the same time the effect of a radial continuously rotating magnetic field with a strength of ±0,5 ÷ 5.0 х 103 A / m with a linear speed of 0.1-5.0 m/min and a change in the direction of rotation after each rotation cycle is carried out.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to create a controlled movement of an electric arc over the surface of a bath of liquid metal without the possibility of burning through the wall of the mold.
