FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: present invention can be used for determining long-term, medium-term and short-term shelf-life of fruits. The method involves mechanical effect on a test object by compressing it. Values of natural loss of mass of fruits in cold storage conditions are measured, the minimum values of which correspond to long-term storage, and maximum values to short-term storage, after putting control fruits from each initial incoming consignment into cold storage conditions for a certain period of time. The modulus of elasticity of compressed control fruits from each initial incoming consignment is determined. The modulus of elasticity is then compared with values of natural loss of mass and in accordance with these relationships, the values of modulus of elasticity are obtained, from which the shelf-life of all incoming consignments of fruits are determined.
EFFECT: information on process characteristics of fruits increases accuracy of determining shelf-life.
