FIELD: mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is designed to seal rotary shafts. The proposed seal comprises a magnetic system consisting of a permanent magnet and pole add-ons to make, with the shaft, a gap filled with magnetic fluid. The edges of aforesaid add-ons and/or shaft and their elements in contact with magnetic fluid are rounded off to eliminate higher magnetic field intensity zones in the seal gap that cause destruction of magnetic fluid.
EFFECT: higher reliability and longer life, reduced weight and sizes of magnetic fluid seals.
