FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to refractory compositions metallurgy and may be used as ceramics and protective covering in high-temperature facilities. The original mixture of titanium and boron chlorides containing 3-5% of boron chloride excess from stoichiometry is recovered by sodium in argon environment. The original mixture temperature is maintained within the interval from 0 to 10°C. The resulting reaction mass is grinded and leached in hydrochloric acid solution.

EFFECT: synthesised titanium diboride with grain size being 30-50 nm and stoichiometric composition is characterised with improved process parametres.
