FIELD: physics; measurement.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to measuring techniques and can be used for measuring clearance between stationary and rotating components of a machine (turbines, generator etc). The system contains a support geometric element, put on the first object which has continuous geometry in the rest of the surface. The continuous geometry of the surface is a round structure. The support geometric element contains a multiple-level structure, with several different levels. On the second object there is a sensor, made with possibility of generating the first signal, which is the first measured parametre from the first object, and the second signal, which is the second measured parametre from the support geometric element. The processor unit is made with possibility of processing the first and second signals, so as measure the gap between the first and second objects based on the difference between the first and second measured parametres. The system for measuring clearance is made with possibility of measuring clearance while the first object moves relative the second object.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement.
