FIELD: instrument engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to systems meant for object detection and can be used in radio-location for recognising extended target as to velocity. Essence of invention consists in providing the possibility of recognising extended target as to velocity by means of narrow-band filtering of Doppler component frequency of reflected signal spectrum, in determining the band of ΔV target approach velocities, which is included in filter pass band of Doppler frequency ΔFd, by the formula ΔV=ΔFd·λ/2, where λ - radiation wave length, in determining Doppler frequency band occupied with signal reflected from ΔFd target, in determining the band of ΔFdt target approach velocities, which is occupied with signal reflected from the target by the formula ΔVt=ΔFdt·λ/2, where λ - radiation wave length, in determining the ratio β=ΔVt/ΔV, at β≥0.01, in taking a decision on extended target as to velocity, at β≤0.01, and in taking a decision on point target as to velocity. Device used for method realisation consists of recognition channel including in-series connected doppler filter, signal duration measuring instrument, computer and threshold device, which are connected in a certain way to the appropriate means of the above device.
