FIELD: woodworking industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of scaling round timber which is used in harvesting and processing wood. Method comprises photographing and imaging ends of round logs, converting pictures into digital form and obtaining dimensional characters of round log theoretical model. At photographing stage standard samples of specified area and length are attached to ends of some round logs and trunks of some external pile logs in the amount enough for obtaining required accuracy. Standard samples occupy some part of the corresponding end of log and tree trunk length. Hereafter both ends and bole surface of pile are photographed. Derived pictures are digitalised and processed for determining precise contour edges of logs ends and standard samples. Ends and standard samples area and pile length are measured from the pictures, and similarity coefficient values surface is calculated reasoning from comparing dimensions of standard samples obtained after processing pictures and their real sizes. Ends area and pile length are calculated with regard for coefficients and, according to assumed model, timber is scaled basing on coefficients.

EFFECT: simplifying process of scaling timber with increasing accuracy of measurement result.
