FIELD: wood working.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of logging and wood processing, namely, to apparatus and methods for contact-free measurement of the geometric parameters and control over the quality of timber. Automated system for contact-free measurement of the geometric parameters and the species and qualitative composition of a stack of roundwood loaded onto an automobile and/or a trailer comprises a stationary platform, a tool for recording the analysed object, and a control and monitoring tool coupled with the recording tool and supplied with software. The system is equipped with a tool for controlling the moving and stopping of the automotive vehicle in the active scanning zone and has recording means, wherein each is made in the form of a stationary 3D scanner and a camera installed in a single body and coupled together. The recording means are secured on two opposing supports at least 10 m in height, providing measurement from all sides except the lower surface, namely: the height, length, and width of the stack.

EFFECT: simplified procedure for obtaining data for determining the geometric parameters of a stack; increase in the reliability and accuracy of measurement.
