FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to applied physics, particularly to spectral methods of determining elementary composition of a substance through atomisation and initiating electric discharge in a liquid. The method of emission analysis for determination of elementary composition using discharge in a liquid involves initiation of electric discharge in the region of a membraneous opening in the structural element of an electrolytic cell, and recording of resulting emission spectra. Discharge is initiated in the presence of a current conducting element, placed in the electrolyte in the discharge region near the membraneous opening. A quasi-continuous mode of maintaining discharge is provided. Before discharge initiation, the current conducting element is polarised using current of lesser value with the same polarity as the discharge. The emission spectrum is recorded at the initial moment of establishing quasi-continuous discharge mode.
EFFECT: increased intensity of spectral lines for a wide range of elements and, consequently, increased sensitivity of analysis.
