FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of potassium ferrate (VI), which can be used as an oxidising agent when disinfecting waste water. The method of producing potassium ferrate (VI) involves reacting potassium superoxide, iron (III) oxide and fuel, which is in form of a mixture of elementary iron and amorphous carbon. To prepare the initial mixture, iron (III) oxide, elementary iron and amorphous carbon are mixed first, and potassium superoxide is then added to the obtained mixture in the following molar ratios of iron (III) oxide to the said components, mol/mol: Fe2O3/KO2=0.204 to 0.217, Fe2O3/C=0.45 to 0.80; Fe2O3/Fe=3.57 to 10.81. Reaction of initial components is initiated by local heating the mixture.
EFFECT: invention reduces consumption of potassium superoxide per unit final product, increases content of base material to 88 wt % in the reaction product.
