FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: excess voltage prevention device includes first electrode (1), second electrode (2), discharge spark gap made between both electrodes (1, 2), and housing (3), in which electodes (1, 2) are located. When igniting the discharge in discharge spark gap between both electrodes (1, 2) in discharge space (5) connecting those two electrodes (1, 2), electric arc (4) appears. Sides (10, 11) of electrodes (1, 2), which face each other, are partially covered with insulating or high-resistivity material (12, 13); at that, sections (14, 15) of electrodes (1, 2), which are not covered with insulating or high-resistivity material (12), are offset relative to each other so that discharge space (5) passes at least partially across the direction of electric field of the applied circuit voltage and/or opposite to that direction; and as a consequence, the path covered with electric arc (4) between both electrodes (1, 2) has a component located across E electric field.
EFFECT: increasing capacity for dissipation of line follow current, and implementing simple design of the device.
