FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of magnesium and chlorine by electrolysis of molten salts. Partially dehydrated raw material is melted in flow of hydrogen chloride prepared by burning of anodic chlorine/natural gas mixture. Melt is dehydrated and then settled. Hydrogen chloride level in gas phase in melting stage is varied depending on quantity of water coming from the melting stage at hydrogen chloride-to-water ratio exceeding by 1.1 times their equipment ratio. EFFECT: reduced magnesium chloride and chlorination agent losses and enabled processing of raw material with elevated moisture content.
