FIELD: physics; optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement of optical characteristics of scattering media and can be used in industry and medicine in controlling quality of transported liquids or gases by measuring their optical characteristics, specifically by measuring scattering and absorption coefficients of the transported substance. Intensity of directed optical radiation emitted by a source and passing through the analysed substance is picked up by two detectors lying off the axis of the source in an asymmetrical way. To describe interaction of optical radiation with the analysed substance and determine its optical characteristics, a diffusion model of radiation transfer is used, which takes into account radiation scattering and absorption.

EFFECT: increased information content and accuracy of photometry of a liquid or gas during transportation.
