FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ceramic industry, more specifically to the technology of producing quartz ceramic and articles from quartz ceramic via water slip casting with subsequent hardening by hydrothermal treatment and calcination. The method of producing quartz ceramic involves preparation of an aqueous slip of quartz glass, moulding ceramic workpieces via slip casting in gypsum moulds, drying and hardening the ceramic material and articles. Hardening is carried out in two steps: first, there is hydrothermal treatment in a steam autoclave with volume ratio of water vapour to ammonia equal to 1:0.1-0.2, temperature 150-200°C, pressure 0.5-5 atm for 3-7 hours, and then calcination at temperature 1150-1200°C for 1-4 hours in air.
EFFECT: obtaining quartz ceramic and articles from quartz ceramic with stable strength, dielectric and optical characteristics in a wide temperature range; simplification of technology of making articles, as well as lowering of sintering temperature.
