FIELD: physics; communication.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication systems. The said method is realised by a radio network controller (RNC1) installed in the said network. The method comprises the following steps: reception of a "handover candidate" message containing an information element on the type of identifier which identifies the said message as a "handover candidate" message, where the message identifies the said session and additionally identifies a RNC candidate of the said network. The said RNC candidate is the RNC candidate for handover of the said session. Identity of the said RNC is established by examining the said message. The said communication session is associated with the said RNC candidate identified on the previous step.
EFFECT: more efficient handover in networks with several radio access technologies (RAT).
