FIELD: chemistry; biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to molecular biology, virology and medicine. The method is based on analyis of 5'-untranslated region of the hepatitis C virus genome using a differentiating oligonucleotide microchip. The method involves a two-step polymerase chain reaction to obtain a fluorescent labelled single-strand fragment of the 5'-untranslated region of the hepatitis C virus genome and subsequent hybridisation of this fragment on a biological microchip which contains a set of specific discriminating oligonucleotides. The hepatitis C virus genotype or subtype is identified by determining specific sequences of sections of the 5'-untranslated region fragment. Invention can be used in medicine.
EFFECT: invention enables analysis directly from a clinical specimen, determine 6 genotypes and 22 subtypes of the hepatitis C virus, including the most virulent and drug-resistant forms, and lower cost of analysis.
