FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: specimen of material which contains a system of defects in form of stress concentrators is deformed. Temperature is measured. The heat pattern is constantly recorded and a graph of variation of temperature of the specimen with time is plotted. The onset of loss of stability of the system of defects is determined. The onset of loss of stability of the system of defects is indicated by appearance of bright infrared illumination and the initial heat pulse when the bridge between the defects breaks.
EFFECT: increased accuracy and easier testing.
