FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: inspected object is spirally scanned with first accuracy using a beam of radiation which spirally encircles the inspected object with pitch distance 5-10 times the relative pitch distance. Projection data are obtained in a data collection unit. Presence or absence of suspicious zones in the inspected zone is determined from the projection data and inspection is ended if no suspicious zone is found. If a suspicious zone is found, at least one section of the said suspicious zone is scanned with second accuracy to obtain projection data in a data collection unit. The second accuracy is higher than the first accuracy. After that a tomographic image of the said at least one section is reconstructed based on projection data obtained when scanning with second accuracy. The reconstructed tomographic image is used to determine presence or absence of any dangerous objects in the suspicious zone.
EFFECT: possibility of fast and accurate inspection of cargo.
