FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to free-piston internal combustion engine. Proposed invention covers four-stroke four-cylinder ICE with variable-stroke reciprocating piston and pre-mixed fuel mix compression initiated ignition that features compression ratio varying to ignite combustion mix, increase engine efficiency, reduce exhaust and allow running on various fuel types. Proposed engine has no crankshaft, hence, generates no rotary output power. Instead, free pistons 23 oscillate similar to two-stroke free-piston engine. In many applications, e.g. piston pumps and compressors, engine output power is directly generated by oscillating pistons. In other applications, for example gas generator 2001 for power turbine 1603 etc, proposed engine incorporates auxiliary means for generation of rotary power output. In using proposed engine with high-rpm-power turbines, power turbine 1603 can be directly coupled with HF AC generator 1604 to produce electric power.
EFFECT: invention allows to increase engine efficiency, reduce exhaust and allow running on various fuel types.
