FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of 2-methyl-2-(3-phenoxybenzoate)-propanenitrile of formula , which can be used in organic synthesis, including production of biologically active substances. The method involves reaction of acid chloride of 3-phenoxybenzoic acid with acetone cyanohydrin in a medium of absolute diethyl ether and in the presence of triethylamine as a hydrogen chloride acceptor. The process is carried out in molar ratio of acid chloride of 3-phenoxybenzoic acid : acetone cyanohydrin : triethylamine equal to 1 : 1.2 : 1.2 respectively for 1 hour at 30-36 °C.

EFFECT: method enables to obtain 2-methyl-2-(3-phenoxybenzoate)propanenitrile with good output and high degree of purity.
