FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic field modulator is a radiotransparent thin-sheet base on one side of which electroconductive thread-like elements are attached in parallel rows, each of the said elements being made from conductors of the same and/or different length and high-frequency switches which connect the conductors to each other, where the said switches are in form of high-frequency pin-diodes which, in parallel rows of adjacent threads, lie on a common virtual line which is perpendicular to the direction of the thread-like elements. The electroconductive thread-like elements are connected to a power supply, and the other side of the base is orthogonally fitted with an array of electroconductive thread-like elements similar to that on the front side of the base.

EFFECT: high efficiency and reliable identification of a remote object.
