FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus receives signals generated by a detector (100) which is sensitive to ionising radiation, or example, X-rays. A differentiating unit (204) generates an output signal which characterises the rate of change of the signal from the detector. A discriminator (206) sorts the amplitude of the output signal of the differentiating unit (204). An integrator (208) which is launched by the output signal of the discriminator (206) generates output signals which characterise the detected photons. At least one corrector (24a, 24b) performs correction based on pulse pile-up, and a coupler (25) uses output signals of correctors (24a, 24b) to generate an output signal which characterises the number and energy spectrum of the detected photons.
EFFECT: high rate of counting photons.
