FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an imaging system and more specifically to a photon counting detector with energy resolution. The imaging system comprises a radiation source which emits radiation passing through an examination region, and a detector array with a plurality of photon counting detector pixels which detect the radiation passing through the examination region and generate a signal indicative of the detected radiation. The photon counting detector pixel comprises a direct conversion layer having the first radiation receiving side and the second opposite side, a cathode affixed to and covering all of or a substantial portion of the first side, an anode affixed to a centrally located region of the second side, wherein the anode includes at least two sub-anodes, and a metal coating affixed to the second side, surrounding the anode and the anode region, with a gap between the anode and the metal coating. The system also comprises a reconstructor which reconstructs the signal to generate volumetric image data indicative of the examination region.
EFFECT: high output of solder connections for the detector pixel.
