FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of manual modulated-current arc welding by consumable electrode. In compliance with proposed method, extra current pulses with repetition rate of, at least, 50 Hz, are applied to pause current. Extra pulse duration is set subject to electrode diametre and grade to vary from 2 to 7 ms. Basic current pulses are generated as a train of extra pulses. Heat input into edges of welded parts is controlled by varying repetition rate of extra pulse trains by program or automatically in inverse proportion of arc mean voltage deviation from preset voltage. During extra pulse flow, after delay of 0.5...3 ms after flow start, extra pulse current amplitude value is reduced to pause current. Note here that pause duration in extra pulse flow interval does not exceed 1 ms.
EFFECT: reduced short-circuit current flow duration, short-circuit current amplitude, hence, power consumed for blast-like destruction of webs and spray of fused metal.
