METHOD OF TREATING ANAL INCOMPETENCE BY TIBIAL NEUROMODULATION Russian patent published in 2011 - IPC A61N1/18

Abstract RU 2420327 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, coloproctology and can be used in treating the patients suffering anal incompetence. A lumbosacral plexus is exposed to electric current through a posterior tibial nerve of one extremity of the patient. A passive cutaneous electrode is fixed lower and retrad from a medial ankle of any extremity of the patient. An active needle electrode is introduced in a point of a projection of the posterior tibial nerve of the same extremity of the patient 30-40 mm higher than the medial ankle and 10 mm retrad from a border of the tibia. A needle of the active needle electrode is introduced at 20-40 mm at the angle 55°-60° in a cranial direction to a longitudinal axis of the tibia. The posterior tibial nerve is exposed 3 times for 10 minutes with varying frequency, current intensity, pulse duration and pulse separation. The sessions are performed two times a week, with the electrodes alternated on the right and left lower extremity of the patient. The therapeutic course makes 12 sessions.

EFFECT: method provides higher effectiveness of the exposure on the lumbosacral plexus, improved functional status of a closing apparatus of rectum and considerably improved quality of life of the patient.
