FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing poly-β-pinene via cationic polymerisation of β-pinene in a medium of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol. The process is carried out in molar ratio β-pinene: 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol equal to 1:2-20 at temperature between 0°C and +60°C. Isomerisation of β-pinene may be carried out in a mixture of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol and an additional organic solvents, as well as in the presence of a catalyst.
EFFECT: method of producing poly-β-pinene increases efficiency and environmental safety, significantly simplifies the process, increases output of the desired product, improves characteristics on molecular weight, composition and optical activity owing to avoiding the need to use Lewis acids.
