FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Proposed method comprises dividing secondary cooling zone into sub zones and determining cooling water consumption for each sub zone. Cooling water consumption is determined subject to heat-transfer factor at billet surface in time, billet surface temperature, actual rate of metal pouring into crystalliser and speed of draft and guide rolls. Billets are cooled by hollow guide rolls. Coolant is passed through said rolls at controlled or constant rate in turbulent flow.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of heat pick-up distribution.
