FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the ceramics industry and specifically to methods of producing refractory materials based on aluminium titanate, and can be used in production of high-strength refractory ceramics with low thermal coefficient of linear expansion and meant for use in nonferrous metallurgy for lining systems for transporting, distributing and receiving aluminium melt and alloys thereof. The crude mixture for producing aluminium titanate based ceramics contains powder of low-crystalline or amorphous potassium titanate and powder of refractory clay based on kaolinite, taken in the following ratio in wt %: powder of low-crystalline or amorphous potassium titanate 26-50, powder of refractory clay 50-74. Said crude mixture undergoes homogenisation and moistening, and ceramic workpieces are moulded from said mixture with subsequent heating and firing at temperature not lower than 1100°C until formation of a ceramic structure which contains aluminium titanate as the main crystalline phase. The obtained material can be used as independent refractory material or as filler for refractory ceramics using refractory clay.
EFFECT: obtaining high-strength ceramics based on aluminium titanate with relatively low sintering temperature.
