FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: method may be used to detect forest fires from space by available information on heated atmospheric gases by the fire temperature in the infrared range of spectrum. The information of atmospheric gases heated by fire temperature in the infrared range of spectrum in transparent windows of atmosphere is received by probing of the Earth underlying surface with space facilities. Reception and analysis of mid-infrared thermal radiation of the Earth surface are carried out with a coherent receiver in a narrow spectral interval that matches a line of atmospheric gas radiation in the "hot" vibration-rotation band of the spectrum.

EFFECT: invention ensures elimination of false identification of fires and improved sensitivity in conditions of dense cloudiness.
