FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in metal processing both at operations of interrupted cutting - cross cut milling, and at operations of continuous cutting - linear turning. Multi-component coating -nitride of titanium-chromium-zirconium-niobium-aluminium is applied on surface of the cutting tool by vacuum ion-plasma procedure; also, at application of coating there are used niobium and aluminium at amount of 1-5 at. % and zirconium at amount over 5 at. %. Coating is applied by means of three arc evaporator arranged horizontally in one plane and connected to a separator of a drop phase of following compositions: titan-aluminium cathode of alloy BT-5, combined zirconium-niobium cathode and chromium cathode.
EFFECT: increased operability of cutting tool.
