FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of measuring distance involves summation of a picked up differential frequency signal in which, along with the information component, there may be several noise components with a generated reference signal, parameters of which are selected so as compensate for the measurement error caused by noise and distortions, particularly incidental amplitude modulation. The criterion for correct selection of parameters of the reference signal is minimum deviation of the measured range from the constant value when measuring the centre frequency of the modulation band.
EFFECT: reduced error in measuring distance due to the effect of noise, including during simultaneous signal distortion by incidental amplitude modulation.
