FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of measuring distance involves summation of a picked up differential frequency signal (DFS) in which, along with the information component, there may be several noise components with a generated reference signal, parameters of which are selected so as compensate for the measurement error caused by noise and distortions, particularly incidental amplitude modulation. The criterion for correct selection of reference signal parameters is minimum deviation of parameters of the spectrum of the resultant signal from parameters of the spectrum of the signal generated by echo waves reflected by a reference reflector. The disclosed method is realised by a radio range finder, having a channel for processing the information component of the DFS and a channel for processing the component of the DFS obtained from echo waves reflected by the reference reflector.
EFFECT: reduced error in measuring distance due to the effect of noise, with simultaneous signal distortion by incidental amplitude modulation.
