FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring techniques, in particular to measuring distance, for example in closed tanks while measuring a fill level, and is based on the principle of frequency modulated radar. This result is achieved due to the fact that a linear connection of middle frequency of the difference signal with the measured distance is used for measurement. Decreased distance measurement error is based on decreased distortion of the spectrum of the difference frequency signal for one monitored object, from the number of probed objects, followed by estimating the central frequency of the spectrum linearly related to the measured distance. To reduce the distortion of the spectrum, the used weight functions must be asymmetric, and the basis function must be with a nonlinear and variable frequency dependence. Required forms of the weight and basis functions depend on the critical frequency of the waveguide, the length of the elements of antenna-waveguide device (AWD) and from the distance between the antenna and the monitored object in free space, which is unknown, wherein the process of determining them is iterative. Distance to other objects is successively measured with other weight and basis functions, and the initial forms of the weight and basis functions are determined before the distance measurement begins.
EFFECT: reduced error in measuring the distance due to the influence of frequency dispersion in AWD elements.
