FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determining ionisation potential (IP) of molecules and electron affinity (EA) of aromatic organic compounds. Disclosed is a method of determining ionisation potential of molecules and electron affinity of organic compounds by recording and analysing absorption spectra samples in the visible electromagnetic spectrum. According to the invention, the spectrum of the analysed compound is recorded directly. Colour characteristics of the analysed compound are found and ionisation potential and electron affinity are determined using formulae linking one of the colour characteristics of the analysed compound (brightness, colour coordinates and chromaticity), defined for the given light source and coefficients which depend on the class of the analysed substances, a standard light source and a colour measuring system.
EFFECT: simplification and high efficiency of the method of determining IP and EA, owing to that the disclosed method has high expressivity, a wide range of groups of analysed compounds, broader capabilities for analysing compounds, simple technology and easy use of the equipment.
