FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention employs a laser device which emits a laser beam with controlled power, as well as an ultrasound radiating device with a radiating diaphragm, which generates ultrasonic waves when exposed to the laser beam emitted by the laser device, as well as apparatus for regulating the diameter of the laser beam directed into the radiating diaphragm. The diameter of the laser beam is regulated using apparatus for regulating the diameter of the laser beam. The radiating diaphragm generates ultrasonic waves whose power depends on the type of the inspected object and the type of inspection. Inspection is carried out by exposing the inspected object to said ultrasonic waves. The laser device is fitted with multiple fibre-optic waveguides with different diameters through which the corresponding laser beam passes, and one of the waveguides is selected as the working apparatus for regulating the diameter of the beam.
EFFECT: possibility of generating ultrasonic waves with optimum power or directivity for a defined type of the probed object or type of inspection in order to carry out a wide range of flaw detection works.
