FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic field is excited in the investigated medium via axially symmetric feeding of current using a three-dimensional system of power lines of a system of power lines connected to corresponding supply electrodes, one or more of which lie at the centre of a circle with radius R at the bottom or near the bottom. Power lines connected to the first electrodes are placed along the section of a vertical axis passing through the centre of the circle with radius R on which second supply electrodes lie. Power lines connected to the second electrodes lie symmetrically about the said section of the vertical axis. One part of the power line connected to the second electrodes can pass in parallel to the section of the vertical axis, while the other part lies radially. Power lines connected to the second electrodes can lie at the inclination to the section of the vertical axis. The length of the section of the vertical axis is equal to the depth of the sea in the investigated region. The radius R is equal to or greater than the depth in the investigated region.

EFFECT: reduced influence of the screening effect of the geoelectric section of sea water on measurement results, reduced influence of water vibrations on change in system geometry and wider range of application.
