FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: powder or foil of tungsten or tantalum is applied on steel substrate. It is treated with arc in argon medium at current 40 A or with pulses of current of high density under a mode of contact welding at voltage from 3.6 to 4 V. Also, material of coating is melted creating a strengthening zone and a transient diffusion zone of 40 mcm to 500 mcm containing inter-metallic phases wherein their concentration decreases from the strengthening zone to the substrate. Material of the substrate is active component of reaction and ensures high diffusion flows of interacting atoms in a surface layer owing to thermal and chemical gradient.
EFFECT: coating possesses high adhesion properties and facilitates operation of parts under complicated conditions of thermo-mechanical loading.
