FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: described is a method of producing novel 5-substituted 1-H-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof of formula where R=CH3; C2H5; p-CH3C6H4, Z=OH or OBzl, by reacting hydrazide of 1-benzyloxycarbonylformimide acid with an acylating agent of general formula where X=Cl, R assumes values given above, the obtained N-acylated hydrazide derivative of substituted formimide acid of general formula is then cyclised into the end product, where Z=OBzl, at temperature 120-160°C and if necessary, the corresponding benzyl ether is reduced via catalytic hydrogenation to the end product, where Z=OH.

EFFECT: obtained compounds can be used in production of pharmaceutical substances, herbicides, fungicides, dyes and photographic materials.
