FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: display has a light source, a display panel, a display panel controller and a switch barrier. The display panel forms an image by controlling transmission of light from the light source. The display panel controller controls modulation of the display panel and scans the display panel in the horizontal direction according to the image signal. The switch barrier separates the zone for viewing the image-carrying beam from the display panel through electric control of light transmission. The switch barrier includes cells of odd columns and cells of even columns which are successively arranged in horizontally and successively switched between slits and masks. The switch barrier has electrodes connected to the controller of the switch barrier, respectively from the side of the cells of odd columns and cells of even columns and independent of supply voltage, and a common electrode which is connected to the controller of the switch barrier from the side of the entire switch barrier.
